My dissertation research examines the impact of Kenya’s two-thirds gender principle at the county assembly level. I am researching how an increase in female politicians influenced political subjectivities, gender relations, and political narratives and discourses on gender and other kinds of difference.

Research on Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting

(Kenya, 2014-2016)

My research on FGM/C has included the determinants of FGM/C practice in Kenya, the effects of FGM/C practices on sexuality, and the perceptions of young men about the practice. My masters thesis examined how the process of legislating against FGM/C in Kenya redefined conceptions about the female body.

Inter-ethnic Friendship in Urban Kenya

I researched about the impact of Kenya’s 2007-08 post-election violence on inter-ethnic friendships among urban youth aged 18-25.
